Curriculum
At Blanchetown Primary School we pride ourselves on our innovative curriculum delivery. We begin our day with an uninterrupted Literacy and Maths block. We use explicit teaching as our core pedagogy and the gradual release of responsibility model, ‘I do, we do, you do,’ framework for developing expert learners. We believe it is vital to ensure students have access to authentic learning situations.
We have BIN (Big Ideas in Number) warmups in the mornings which are well supported by all staff members. We have daily writing and journalling opportunities. We are currently teaching AUSLAN as our Languages program.
Our Literacy block incorporates the Big 6 components of Reading and we currently have a major focus on our Phonics delivery, reading fluency and vocabulary development.
All of our lessons are differentiated to meet individual learning goals which are set with teachers. When making Curriculum decisions, our Site Improvement Plan informs us of our next steps. All actions are data driven and collaboratively designed with input from teaching staff and leaders.
The Australian Curriculum is designed to help all young Australians to become successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens. Presented as a developmental sequence of learning from Foundation – Year 10, the Australian Curriculum describes to teachers, parents, students and others in the wider community what is to be taught and the quality of learning expected of young people as they progress through school.
